Sailing

Last day sailing in Hilo Bay with my sons as a lifeguard for the Kulia i ka pono program.

Spending time with My Son

July 16th 2009 My Son filling some big Shoes or should I say slippers!

Spending quality time with my son on the lanai after a long day's work. My third son loves to spend time outside on the lanai or in the yard enjoying nature and not to mention all the shoes and slippers he loves to try on.

Work on the Sea!

Another hard day at the office. We went canoeing with the 20 kids from "Kulia i ka pono" this past Tuesday on July 15th. I was in the wa'a with the girls and we kicked the boy'z butt. We were hot from kicking butt so we took a dip in the ocean. Kumu Henani was going by on the speed boat and took the picture when I am doing the look-out POSE!

http://sites.google.com/site/livinghawaiianstyle/

Here is my website for my Portfolio!!! Enjoy! Might want to check out my son dancing!

professional portfolio - personal web site, Plaxo, LinkedIn.

I loved the digital portfolio! It is amazing how fast and easy it was to design and personalize. It wasn't many years ago that you practically had to be a computer wizard to design a web page with all the bells and whistles. These days I can do it with a few simple instructions. Now I am the WIZARD of the Universe! :-) I was a little worried when the instructions that were e-mailed to us were the old websites pictures, but I played around and was able to figure it out. It was FUN and EASY! It made it a enjoyable experience after the initial shock. I can see how this kind of website would be GREAT for group projects as you work with others.
Plaxo and linkedln were very similar in the fact that they allow you to connect with social circles with similar interests of all kinds. It did seem a little more serious and professional then facebook and myspace. I guess it is what you prefer. I will probably keep facebook for family and close friends and then use Plaxo/linkedln for projects and communication with co-workers. The more options I have the more flexible I can be! Mahalo

A library thing!

What a wonderful tool for finding books and resources that you never knew existed before. Another great thing about the internet site is the social circles that you can make with those who have the same interests as you. They in turn can recommend what interesting and helpful books they have read. I can clearly see what a great resource this site could be in terms of research oriented projects. I know many of my students would also find this site very interesting. Mahalo for a new and exciting opportunity!

Library Crazy!

Love the FUN!

It was very relaxing and fun to play around with the generators. Very FUN! I actually posted the first picture for my Dance studio. N2DANCE! My wife and myself teach Hip-hop, Jazz, Ballet classes. We are starting up our summer classes this week. The second picture is another passion I have. Physical Education!! I am having so much fun with the new technology I am learning from our technology class. Mahalo nui loa

The reason why I choose this video was the fact that I love dance. The art of dance has been in existence from the beginning of time. The freedom of movement and expression is limitless! Check out the clips and you will know what I mean.

YOUTUBE!!!

It is truly amazing that the body can move like these guys. I love breakdancing! It has no limits!!! Check out the videos for yourself and you will agree. I could use this in my classroom to download great performances in my class of specific students onto the blog that I will be using to communicate with the parents this coming year. The kids would love the idea!!

Podcasts!!!

Aloha,
Just added a RSS feed to my bloglines about personal fitness and a ESPN news podcast. I had no idea that there were so many podcasts. So much information and so little time. I searched for personal fitness through the podcast site and found some very interesting workout routines. I think I will continue listening to some of the sites so that I can use some of the ideas in my lessons. WOW! The longer I am in this technology class, I am finding out more tools and information that I never knew existed. I am beginning to love all the new tools that I can use to better myself personally and my classroom.

Searching Technorati

Using different ways to search for specific subjects provided different results. I searched for the word Kinesiology is the 4 different ways (Posts, Blogs, Photos, Videos) and clearly saw how much info was out there in the Blogosphere World! WOW! Amazing!Blogging has hit mainstream. No doubt about it. I did not realize that blogging was so popular. I had heard about it from a few friends before our class started but these numbers below are startling. I thought for sure that the amount of people on facebook doubled the amount of people blogging. I was wrong. People sharing their thoughts on all kinds of subjects. Could be a great tool if USED PROPERLY. A great site to search for friends and for common interests of those in the Blogging world.

comScore MediaMetrix (August 2008)
  • Blogs: 77.7 million unique visitors in the US
  • Facebook: 41.0 million | MySpace 75.1 million
  • Total internet audience 188.9 million

Is Del.icio.us delicious?

Aloha,
It was totally delicious! I always hated working on other computers except my personal labtop BECAUSE it didnʻt have my bookmarks of the websites that I am always on. The convenience of having this website that has them organized for me, which in turn allows me to access them from any computer is great. The feature that allows you to share websites of common interests is wonderful. Can you imagine the possibilities in terms of our research efforts. I will love to hook up to the sites that my professors and cohorts use frequently. It would save alot of time and effort searching for information needed if we all shared the specific sites that we all found useful. The networking power is endless. That is the Marvelous thing that I have found from our class in the past few weeks. The technology allows us to help one another in a way that a previously impossible. TEAMWORK! WE SHOULD ALL BE USED TO THAT CONCEPT!
P.s.
I already have my account set up with all my favorites! :-)

Valuable technology in our classroom setting!

Aloha,
Exploring the Web 2.0 award lists was exciting. I really can utilize all the new technology skills that I now posses in my classroom. Here is a example: I was looking at the website ifit.com when completing the other assignment and had a great idea. How about if I gave the students a assignment to log their weight and information at the beginning of the year and had them keep track of their progress throughout the year. I could also incorporate journal entries as they analyze their personal progress on a monthly basis and have them create goals in terms of weight loss and personal fitness. WOW! I am getting excited just thinking about the possibilities.
Another great idea I had was using a official school blog to keep the parents updated about what we are doing in class and the progress of the students in general. I know some parents would really love that idea. It would make the parent and teacher relationship so much stronger. Technology will make my class much more efficient and effective. Mahalo

Google Docs.

The frustration of sending documents that canʻt be opened is OVER! I canʻt count the number of times I have sent a vital document to a fellow teacher that needed a quick response, only to be e-mailed back that she/he cannot open it! Talk about frustration. I will start using this program immediatly to send my documents from now on. Itʻs great to have computer programers think of ways to actually make it easier for us instead of always just trying to make a extra buck from all the confusion with different software. I think this program will be very valuable to all teachers on a everyday basis as we send and receive important document. No more wasting time on programs that are different on every computer in the WORLD! YES!!!

Web 2.0 Awards list!

WoW! What a line-up! I didnʻt know there were that many great sites that I didnʻt know about. I explored craigslist. I have heard about the website from friends but havenʻt had the time to personally explore it. I found some great deals in my community. Itʻs kind of nice to cut out the middle man and buy things from people who want to get rid of it at a GREAT Deal! I have some things around the house that I will actually try and sell on craigslist this week. So many opportunities, so little time to make some side cash! :-) This was a great assignment and a great page to bookmark for future reference. I will explore other sites on the awards list when I get more time. Mahalo!

Bloglines!

Aloha,
Great technology to use. I especially loved the fact that you could use bloglines for research. I was pretty much jumping between sites using my bookmark feature but this blogline is soo much better. I really enjoyed this assignment and am learning alot about what is out there and how to use it properly. Canʻt wait to see what other technology is coming up in the future! Mahalo

Relaxing in O'ahu

Just chilling like a villan on O'ahu today as we pay tribute to our Military for their service to our country! Freedom is something to be cherished and truly appreciated. We need to always remember the price paid for freedom. Freedom is NOT Free. My Dad served 20 years in the Army and I am proud of Him. Mahalo Dad!

Interesting Things from the Articles!!!

Social Networking/Alfred/Benjamin
WOW! I can clearly see the tremendous impact that the internet has had within social circles! WOW! It stated in the articles that an evolution is happening in social interactions larger in scale than anything before. I belive it because I am a part of it! Just look at me. I am in a Masters program with cohorts from all around the U.S. at a college in Frenso, CA while I am in the Middle of the Pacific Ocean on a Island called Hawai'i. If that isn't amazing then I don't know what it! We are all apart of this amazing movement in social interactionas as we pursue Higher Education.

Examing Social Software in Teacher Education/
Richard E. Ferdig
One very interesting topic that was brought up was the foresight and the knowledge that educators need to have about what is out there and what are our students doing with that education. On the 3rd page it stated that we as educators need to create a constructivist learning enviroment that provides oppotunities for students to publish artifact of learning and then promote feedback which results in reflection. Using technology such as facebook in a learning enviroment would be great! With our students being soo very computer savvvvy, we as educators need to use their strengths and interests to promote positive learning experiences through the many social software opportunities at our disposal.

Utilizing social networking media to support "always on" learning styles
Derek/ Mercedes

How we learn, changes what we learn and in turn changes how fast we learn things. The changes in learning has drastically changed the expectations and the perspective of our students these days. I loved the statement that said "the convergence of social networking is changing the face of education." How and Why is the question I asked myself. The how is through the computer. Being able to converse, brainstorm and exchange ideas with a click of the mouse is Marvelous. No time or distance can limit this type of communication. Why? The youth, our students live in a world of FAST paced food, information which enables them to become accustomed to the speed. We can harness that speed and use it for the benfit of our students! If we ourselves can keep up! :-)

Great Assignment! I have really enjoyed learning about this new technology to treasure and share photos! It is truly amazing the things we can do with computers these days!

Very, Very Interesting Technology this WEEK!

Aloha,

I really enjoyed the Flicks assignment this week. I will probably use that program to download my pictures from now on. It allows me to share my personal photos with friends and families. Being able to tag the photos with details is also a great feature. Also having the connection betweem flicks and my blog is GREAT! Mahalo nui loa! Take care and God bless!

Starting my Masters Program! Yaa!

Aloha from Hawaiʻi,
It has truly been a exciting week of working on my Masters program. I have really enjoyed the new ideas and concepts from my readings and also personal insights from classmates all around the world. It is really nice to be able to communicate with other teachers in the same field and toss around ideas. It is inspiring and very helpful. I am looking forward to the many new and exciting things I will be able to learn from this program.
Ke Akua pu a malama pono.
